Somehow the subject of the Ukraine came up: The Climate Minute Podcast
Friday Mar 03, 2017
Friday Mar 03, 2017
Our new Attorney General’s admission that he spoke with the Russian ambassador became a climate issue once Ukraine economic sanctions ‘somehow came up’ in the conversation. Why? The Obama era sanctions were a punishment for invading Ukraine, and effectively blocked the development of Russian arctic oil by- wait for it- Rex Tillerson’s Exxon. Putin’s desire for the $500B deal was a clear possible motive for hacking our election. On the other hand, Darryl Issa’s new found enthusiasm for protecting the climate is a good example in how to pressure your Member of Congress. Listen in.

Stand together or fall alone: The Climate Minute Podcast

Monday Feb 27, 2017
The wave of anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ, and anti-climate sentiment, not to the mention raw racism that is being fed by our new administration, demands that we stand together. Climate Hawks need to fight the “Neo-Know-Nothing” policies of Trumpism on every front. One way to do that is right at home, by setting up a ‘green fuel’ standard to minimize the impact that burning fossil fuels for transport. Listen in as we discuss.

DAPL, the Zeitgeist, and Gandhi: The Climate Minute Podcast
Monday Jan 30, 2017
Monday Jan 30, 2017
Executive Orders were issued recently aimed at reviving both Keystone XL and the Dakota Access Pipeline. Does it still make sense? What does make sense is the eruption of “alt” Twitter accounts for National Parks, the EPA and other agencies.
Read as well Bill McKibben’s latest piece :
The zeitgeist can’t be rewritten by environmentalists alone. Though there’s no technical reason why environmental protection should be a “progressive” idea, it’s clear that in our day and age the Republican party and the conservative movement have chosen to go with the fossil fuel industry. (They’ve been bought, and they’ve stayed bought). That leaves those who care about the climate standing with those who care about the poor, about racial justice, about immigrants, about peace. And at bottom that’s the right fit: a renewably powered world would be far more localized, democratic, and fair. It’s the opposite of planet Koch in every way.
Finally, what can Mahatma (The Great Soul) Gandhi teach us about how to resist the authoritarian police state we appear headed for? Listen in.
Because we recognize the necessity of personal accountability for our actions, because we accept responsibility for building a durable future and because we believe it is our patriotic duty as citizens to speak out, we must insist that the United States put a price on carbon.
Thanks for listening.

2016 was quite a year-in many, many ways. Environmental justice concerns melded quite clearly with climate activism in Dakota. The pipeline protests there seem to be a template for a linking of climate and inequality issues that will be needed in the future. Of course, the year was notable from a geo-physics perspective as the Arctic icecap melted-in the winter! What a surprise! Finally, the international climate movement might be strong enough to persist, even withoutUS leadership. Look to China to reap the benefits of our stupid policies. Listen in as we discuss.

Speak your mind even if your voice shakes: The Climate Minute Podcast

Trump’s anti-climate cabinet picks are only the latest round in a decades long battle. Reagan did it, W. Bush did it, and now “Lyin’ Donald” will try. But then as now, people will push back against the dishonesty and shortsightedness. Many states have aggressive climate plans and cities are feeling the effects now. You can add your own voice to the call for action at the Boston Women's March for America on January 21 2017 11AM or at the Mass Power Forward Lobby Day January 25 2017 at 10AM Listen in as we discuss.

Can Obama Trump-proof the planet? The Climate Minute Podcast
Friday Dec 23, 2016
Friday Dec 23, 2016
Good news this week: President Obama acted to protect a vast stretch of underwater area from fossil fuel exploitation. This suggests he know what is coming, and is working to protect the planet from the Trump-oil agenda. On top of that, a court case that will allow a full legal presentation of climate science will go forward in the State of Washington.
In case you are a little shaky on your constitutional trivia answers, the Emolument Clause is in Article 1, Section 9 of the US Constitution. Donald Trump must swear to “preserve, protect and defend” this along with all the other clauses in the document. Here it is:
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

As the implications of the Trumpian climate desecration plan become ever more clear, the need to resist his agenda is obvious. From a request for names of climate scientists at DOE to legitimate fears that climate data will be deleted from government computers, we need no new signs of a malevolent intent. “Hamilton Electors” are great to support, but read up on a practical guide to resisting the Turmp agenda . Listen in as we discuss.
